6th and 7th Grade ELA

Welcome to 6th and 7th Grade English Language Arts!

Welcome to Mrs. Smith's class!

This year in ELA, we will be exploring a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. These will include novels and short stories, as well as other types of texts. In addition to exploring these types of texts, we will be working on how to respond to texts in a variety of ways. We will explore argumentative, narrative, and informational writing. In order to become effective writers, we will be working on typing skills and proper typing techniques. We will also be working on grammar usage and mechanics.

In addition to writing and reading, we will be practicing speaking and listening skills to become effective communicators. Students will learn how to make informed decisions and look at, and appropriately respond to, others' perspectives.

Our goals for this year are to develop strong reading and writing strategies, become effective communicators in speaking and writing, and work toward increasing the complexity of what we read and write.
